Is a Boiler Right for Me?

Living in Vermont means that you are going to have to put up with a long, intense winter season. It is no surprise, then, that Vermonters take their home heating systems very seriously. One of the most popular residential heating options available is the boiler. Boilers have been with us a for a very long time, but this does not mean that they are in any way outdated or obsolete. In fact, boilers are still going strong, and are now more efficient and more reliable than ever before. Even so, boilers are not for everyone. If you think that a boiler in Bellows Falls, VT is right for you, give us a call. HB Energy Solutions excels in boiler installations and services.

How Do Boilers Work?

A boiler differs immensely from forced air heating systems, such as furnaces and heat pumps. A boiler heats water, and the resulting hot water or steam is then distributed throughout the home via a distribution system. This may be tubing through which the hot water circulates, as in a hydronic heating system, or steam radiators, which radiate the heat from the steam into living spaces.  There are a few benefits to be had with this sort of operation.

Benefits of Using a Boiler

Unlike furnaces, which have fans and other moving parts, boilers are fairly simple in terms of mechanical components. Because of this, they are less likely to encounter mechanical problems in their operation. They are also quite efficient, and don’t run the risk of air leaks and heat loss in the way that a forced air system does. Of course, the installation of a boiler is also quite a big job, and installing a hydronic system is easiest during the construction process. If you have existing ductwork, for instance, you may want to stick with a forced air system. If you like the idea of avoiding the dry air and IAQ problems that can stem from the use of such systems, though, you just may find that the boiler is ideal for your heating preferences.
