Commercial Solar Power Applications
| Mascoma School District Solar Hot Water System. |
|---|
| In conjunction with Enfield Energy Emporium, this installation was designed to supply four schools in the Mascoma School District with solar hot water. It consists of five separate systems of evacuated tubes. One of the schools' layout and mechanical location required that the array be split for two different locations. All of the systems are pre-heating scenarios. The school district's motivation was to reduce their oil consumption, thereby saving them money. A side benefit was to show the student body that solar is a viable means for collecting energy and using it in a practical manner.

This 32 evacuated tube collector heats a transfer fluid that is circulated to a 160 gallon solar storage tank to supply pre-heated potable water to the school's existing boiler system. This school should be able to reduce their cost of heating hot water by 70%. |

This 32 evacuated tube system was installed on the high school roof. It will send pre-heated transfer fluid to its own 160 gallon solar storage tank and then transfer that heat to the school's potable hot water system. |
| Canaan Elementary School Solar Hot Water System. |
|
This 32 tube solar hot water collector was installed on the Canaan Elementary School roof. It will supply heated transfer fluid to a 160 gallon storage tank for their domestic hot water needs. The pre-heated potable water will be circulated to their existing domestic hot water heater. As with the other systems, the Canaan school will save about 70% of the cost to heat their hot water. |

| This photo is a typical solar storage tank. This one is 160 gallons. The size of the storage tank is determined by the size of the collector. Attached to the front of the tank is the circulator and controller for the system. | This is a 16 evacuated tube collector that was installed on the roof of the Enfield Elementary school. This school has two independent mechanical systems. One is for the domestic hot water and one is for the hot water used in the kitchen. Both systems will save them 70% on the cost of energy to heat the hot water. | |
