These are some of the most common plumbing emergencies that you really shouldn’t wait to call a professional about.

When Most or All of Your Drains Clog at Once

If one drain is clogged, it could be a result of debris in that specific drain. The standard protocol would be to inspect and attempt to unclog that drain.

But if every drain in your home is clogged at once, the problem lies with your sewer line. This is a much bigger problem to deal with.

Sewer lines can also run into problems with tree roots. Since roots grow in the direction of moisture, roots can shift or invade your sewer lines.

When There’s Sewer Backup

Sewer backup is an immediate threat to your health and well-being. It also results in massive damage to your home if left untreated.

Backup in the form of liquid waste can be fixed with an emergency call to your plumber. The most common cause of sewer backups is clogged drains and pipes, which may require powerful tools and first-hand experience to combat.

When You Don’t Have Any Water

You turn on the faucet, but there’s absolutely no water. If this is just one faucet, there could be an issue with your faucet aerator. That’s the little metal screen that screws into the end of your faucet.

These are used to reduce water flow by incorporating air into the stream that exits your faucet. Your aerator can clog over time from hard water, or your water main may have been turned off.

This could also be the result of the next talking point on our list: burst pipes. If water is escaping through a burst pipe, it’s not going to make it to your faucet with enough water pressure.

When You Have Frozen or Burst Pipes

Water expands as it freezes. Regardless of the container it’s in (copper, PVC, you name it), the pressure of expanding water will cause the container to break. When those pipes thaw, you have a serious leak on your hands.

There could be enough pressure to entirely burst a pipe. Needless to say, a burst pipe isn’t usable; it needs to be replaced. Pipes don’t only burst from expanding, freezing water. Abnormally high water pressure can also cause this to happen.

Call the Plumbing Experts

Now you know how to tell an emergency from a standard plumbing issue. If there’s an immediate threat to your home, quality of life (such as not having water), or health, it’s an emergency. Don’t hesitate to call the professionals as soon as possible.

Contact HB Energy Solutions for all your energy needs.
