Monday, January 1st, 2018

air-filterThe winter solstice may have just passed, but it has felt like winter in our area for quite a while, now. You have no doubt been running your furnace for some time already, and we certainly hope that you remembered to schedule professional heating maintenance in New Hampshire this year. If not, there is no way that you can expect your furnace to function at peak performance and efficiency levels. There is also one very important maintenance task that you should be handling on your own.

That is changing the air filter that your furnace uses regularly. Typically, you’ll need to do this once every 1-3 months. There are many factors that influence the need for changing a filter, though, so that is really just a basic guideline. The best way to figure out if the time has come to replace your filter is simply to check in on its condition from time to time. But how does a dirty air filter really affect a furnace? And is it really that big of a deal?

Why Choose a Radiant Heating System?

Monday, September 25th, 2017

radiant-heating-tubingNew Hampshire is a very cold place to be throughout the heating season. If you hope to make it through the winter comfortably, you are going to need to have a great heater installed in your home. If you are currently weighing your options when it comes to heating your home, we strongly recommend radiant heating in New Hampshire. There are a lot of great forced air heating systems out there, of course, but the fact is that radiant heating offers some benefits that are really tough to compete with.

The installation of a radiant heating system is a big job, and it may not make sense to have a radiant heating system installed in an existing home. Due to the nature of the system, they are most easily installed at the time of construction. If you have a new home going up, are renovating your existing home, or you don’t mind dealing with a pretty involved installation process in order to enjoy long-term benefits, then let us know and we’ll help you to decide if radiant heating is right for you.

Will Ductless Heating Get the Job Done?

Monday, September 11th, 2017

ductless-blowerHeat pump technology is an outstanding way in which to heat one’s home with minimal energy consumption and the cost that comes along with it. As you may know, heat pumps do not burn a fuel source to generate heat. Instead, they use a refrigerant cycle to absorb heat from the air outside, compress the refrigerant, and then use its heat in order to warm the interior living space. The question that many have is whether or not this method of heating is sufficient in as cold a climate as Vermont.

Fortunately, the answer is yes — for the most part. Ductless mini splits do have their limitations and, as is the case with any heating system, they are not right for every home or for every homeowner. Consider the following information, though, and let us know if you have any questions. We install and service Mitsubishi and Fujitsu ductless mini splits in Woodstock, VT, and we can help you to get the best from yours if you decide to go this route.

Monday, August 14th, 2017

house-in-winterAnother humid and wet summer is nearly behind us here in Vermont, and you know what that means. Soon enough, you are going to shut down your AC for the last time of the year and flip on the heat instead. Were you 100% satisfied with the overall performance of your home heating system this past winter? Have you been thinking about replacing your heater with a newer model? If so, now is definitely the time to start thinking about it more seriously.

The last thing that you want to do is wait long enough for the chill of the season to set in before your new heater is in place. When that happens, some homeowners convince themselves that their existing heaters can handle just one more heating season. These very homeowners tend to be the ones that wind up calling us for emergency repairs or even replacements, just when they need their heaters in Bellows Falls, VT the most.  (more…)

It’s Never Too Early for Heating Maintenance!

Monday, July 31st, 2017

heating-maintenance-never-too-earlyWhen people hear the term maintenance, the first thing that likely comes to mind is repair service. But heating system maintenance is about more than that. It’s a preventative step homeowners should take to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of their heater all throughout our heating season, which in our area is basically all year-round!

This is why we say it’s never too early to schedule your Charlestown, VT heating maintenance appointment. We typically recommend that you have this service scheduled right before its heaviest period of use, so during autumn. But the truth of the matter is that so long as you are having your maintenance tune-ups done on a yearly basis (or bi-annually if you have a heat pump) then you are taking the appropriate steps to ensuring a fully functional heating system.
